Social Responsibility
At MDL, we are driven by people.
Our commitment to social responsibility is deeply ingrained in our DNA and we recognise that our journey towards sustainability goes hand in hand with our responsibility towards the people and communities we engage with.
Health & Safety
The safety of our employees and partners is of paramount importance to us. As a company, we endeavour to identify and reduce to as low as reasonably practicable any potential risks and hazards that could negatively impact our employees, partners, communities or the environment.
MDL fosters a culture of awareness and responsibility regarding HSEQ issues by conducting regular risk assessments to identify and mitigate HSEQ hazards and having in place protocols for dealing with emergencies and incidents.
We set SMART objectives and targets for HSEQ improvements reporting on key HSEQ metrics and performance to stakeholders. We encourage the use of Observation Cards across all our sites and a Health & Safety induction in a mandatory element of our onboarding process.
We provide and support regular training and awareness programs for employees on HSEQ practices such as IOSH Managing Safety, NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, NEBOSH Diploma in Environmental Management.
We also provide various targeted HSEQ courses, such as CPCS Appointed Persons: Lifting Operations, Working At Height, Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) and others.

Employee Wellbeing
At MDL our people are our business, and so we aim to create an environment where employees feel supported, valued and are able to be their best self.
We support our employees’ mental health with regular in-office and offsite initiatives, encouraging activity and social time.
All of our sites have a dedicated and named Mental Health First Aider, trained to assist employees in times of personal or professional hardship.
Our employees have access to an online support platform which provides evidence-based interventions and support tools designed to help employees build mental resilience and strengthen their personal, emotional and financial wellbeing.

Workplace culture
One of our core values is keeping it real. At the heart of our business is a group of down-to-earth, trustworthy individuals who respect each other and those around us.
At MDL, we understand the value of solid connections beyond our daily tasks. We incorporate team-building events into our routine and host annual celebrations to acknowledge achievements,
teamwork and shared success.
These gatherings go
beyond recognising
professional
milestones; they are
about appreciating the
collective effort that
drives OneTeam MDL
forward.
As a result of our
friendly working
environment and
people-focused culture,
the number of people
who have been part of
OneTeam MDL for 10
years and more
continues to grow.

Employee skill development
In order for One Team MDL to reach its full potential, our employees continuously develop their professional skills. We support this by conducting regular skill self-assessments and competencies reviews, and based on these we encourage our employees to attend training courses and seminars, enabling them to realise their own career plans.
We support and encourage CPD programmes when our employees want to expand their qualifications and skillsets, such as acquiring EngTech, IEng or CEng status; as well as running internal knowledge sharing sessions between departments.
We run an MDL Technical Apprenticeship programme and offer placement or employment opportunities to university students and graduates across the business.

Giving back
We are passionate about supporting our local communities and so we partner with charities - local and further afield - to raise funds for their missions. We support those charities that approach us for help or have been highlighted by our employees and whose values align with our own.
We also encourage our employees to undertake their own charitable endeavours, whether that's through participating in volunteering projects or by supporting charitable organisations and crossing experiences off their bucket list at the same time.
Examples include sports and health challenges, such as the Walking Week for Mental Health; the Kiltwalk or fundraising runs.
The Giving Back principle also applies from the company to our workforce. From social gatherings under the MDL banner, to healthy competition such as bake-off or photo challenges – we encourage our staff to take a step back, let their hair down and enjoy the sense of community coming from being part of One Team MDL.
