Girls in Energy Programme

Empowering future female leaders in Energy
In 2024, MDL hosted a group of young women as part of the Girls in Energy programme, aimed at encouraging female participation in the energy sector. Sponsored by Shell and delivered in collaboration with NESCol, the programme offers girls aged 13-17 an opportunity to explore career paths in energy through classes and industry visits.
During the visit, the girls learnt about MDL’s operations, including the purpose and unique features of key equipment. Our team shared personal career journeys in engineering, health and safety and marketing, highlighting the diverse roles in the energy sector. The tour, led by MDL staff, focused on key equipment such as winches and tensioners and the girls were also introduced to the assembly line, gaining insight into how MDL’s equipment is built and tested before deployment.
The visit was a valuable opportunity to inspire the next generation of women in energy, and we are proud to support initiatives that foster diversity and inclusion. It’s opportunities like Girls in Energy that help to break down barriers and challenge perceptions, while also offering a platform for young women to see how they can contribute to and thrive in the energy industry.
At MDL, we are committed to supporting programs that foster diversity and inclusion within the workforce, and we were thrilled to have the opportunity to participate in this initiative. We hope the visit inspired the girls to pursue careers in STEM and energy, and that they left with a greater understanding of the many paths available to them.
