MDL walks the talk for Charlie House
A pair of MDL volunteers swapped their sofa Sunday for a walk on the wild side to support a North-east charity.
One Team MDL’s Aleks and Gordon undertook The Mighty Stride challenge – a 26-mile walk through rural Aberdeenshire, together with other 2300 volunteers of all ages taking part in The Kiltwalk.
The charitable platform organises mass-participation events across Scotland, allowing volunteer walkers to raise funds for their chosen charity. An individual or team’s final collected sum is increased by 50% by The Hunter Foundation, sponsors of the initiative.
As a result, One Team MDL raised in total over £3500 for Charlie House.
The charity’s mission is to improve the quality of life for babies, children and young people in the North-east of Scotland who have life-limiting or life-threatening conditions, and to provide support to their families.
“I just wanted to say a huge thank you for doing the Kiltwalk for the Charlie House families, it really will make a huge difference,” said Jenna Simpson, Fundraising Coordinator for Charlie House.
And what did the MDL volunteers think of the challenge?
“I’m not a runner, but I’ll happily say I’ve done the marathon with this one – I imagine that’s what one feels like! I’m a keen hiker, so I did think a flat trail would be a “walk in the park”… I’ve learnt my lesson though!" Aleks said.
“Regardless of how battered our legs felt, there was never a question of not crossing the finish line – our orange tops gave us the determination to keep going. I am so pleased we were able to do this little thing in support of the amazing work Charlie House are doing.”
