MDL PVLS celebrated at SPE awards

The MDL Portable Vertical Lay System (PVLS) has been awarded the Highly Commended certificate at the Offshore Achievement Awards 2019.

The recognition came in the Innovator category at the thirty-third final of the awards, organised by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE).

In this category the judges looked for evidence to highlight how the technology solutions were innovative, and in particular, how they contribute to the overall objective of maximising recovery of hydrocarbon reserves or the capture of renewable energy.

The key features of the MDL PVLS that captured the judges' attention were its complete portability, making it the only road-transportable VLS on the market, as well as its compact, easily adaptable and Plug&Play design, which allows the conversion of a standard support vessel into a pipelay vessel for the duration of the project - resulting in significant time and cost savings on offshore missions.

Derek Smith, MDL CEO, said:

"SPE is a highly respected global organisation, therefore, the profile of these awards is equally as high.

"To be firstly shortlisted, and then Highly Commended in the Innovator category is therefore great recognition and a true testament to the hard work put in by our entire team to the research, development and delivery of back-deck systems and associated services that influence positive change in the industry.

“I would like to thank the judges for the award and for helping us spread the word on the efficiencies that well thought-out technology can bring to offshore operations."

The MDL PVLS was also named the top innovation in Subsea UK Business Awards 2018.
