Irish cable scope for MDL spread

MDL's cable lay spread has been deployed in the East Irish Sea for an umbilical replacement as part of UKCS life of field operations.

The spread, consisting of an MDL Generation 1 Reel Drive System, 2-track tensioner, overboarding chute and deck deflectors, was mobilised on board an Offshore Support Vessel (OSV) for the deployment of just over 6km of 75mm cable in 27-35m water depth.

The vessel was known to MDL Project Engineering team from previous campaigns, which ensured efficient deck planning and sea-fastening design. Mobilisation of the enabling equipment on board was further optimised with the application of the MDL RDS, which engaged with the product reel, acting as its sea fastening.

This maiden project on the UK West Coast follows other cable replacement and IMR scopes across the North Sea, including Dutch and Belgian waters.
