Lighthouse trail shines light on cancer
My Bonnie lies o’er the ocean… specifically, on the Lido in Peterhead Bay!
The Light the North trail has now launched across the north east of Scotland, with 50 sculptures to be visited and “collected” by keen walkers, in the name of fighting cancer.
The initiative, organised by Clan Cancer Support and Wild in Art, is looking to bring some light to cancer sufferers across the region with the 2.5m lighthouses, designed by local artists and sponsored by Scottish businesses – including MDL.
Using a dedicated map as reference, families and individuals can follow the trail in pursuit of the sculptures, while at the same time discovering the beauty of the Scottish coastline and islands.
The lighthouses - present in each of the areas where Clan operates - can be “collected” by entering their 4-digit codes into the Light the North app, with rewards up for grabs along the way.
MDL's “My Bonnie Lies O’er the Ocean” sculpture was designed by Small Stories artist Gabi Reith and recognises the lifesaving work of the RNLI. For all under-12s who visit the lighthouse on the Lido in Peterhead, there is a special competition underway...
The trail runs until 17 October, after which point the sculptures will be auctioned off to help Clan to support even more people affected by cancer.
