Preservation and storage close to home

Independent UK operator Spirit Energy was looking to relocate their water injection riser from Denmark to Scotland, for more efficient offshore deployment in the future. Having the experience, the required equipment fleet and a quayside storage facility in Peterhead, MDL was a straightforward choice for the project.

MDL Project Engineering Team managed the complete scope, from relocating the product stored on a third-party reel from Denmark to MDL base in Peterhead and onto an MDL-owned and newly-refurbished 8.6m installation reel. Over 300m of product was transpooled using MDL Second-generation Reel Drive System and ancillary equipment.

The complete execution included detailed method statement, designing of reel modifications for the specific product, the reel and cradle refurbishment, storyboard drawings, lift plans and provision of the full equipment spread in order to safely execute the transpooling over a 4-day period. The transpooling operation provided the client with further cost efficiencies in storage and readiness for mobilisation when the product is required for installation.
