Resolution of RDS errors via remote diagnostics
Challenge
Following third-party modifications to the harmonic filters on a client’s 800Te RDS, the system began experiencing unexpected drive errors and PLC communication faults. As the OEM, MDL was brought in to investigate. On-site troubleshooting did not identify the root cause, but MDL’s remote access functionality allowed its experts to quickly diagnose and resolve the issue.
MDL Solution
MDL first supported the client remotely, then deployed a specialist to site for advanced diagnostics. The engineer reprogrammed the ABB drives, corrected encoder and motor temperature faults and implemented a software patch to prevent recurring alarms. MDL was able to efficiently identify and resolve issues before arriving on-site thanks to data connectivity.
Outcomes
The system was brought back online swiftly with minimal disruption. The project demonstrated the value of PLC upgrades and integrating remote access tools, enabling fast expert intervention that saved time and reduced the need for prolonged on-site presence.
