Challenge
With 5 reels of flowlines and no immediate use for them, a North Sea operator took the proactive approach to inspect the product and reels before putting them into storage, to ensure their long-term integrity.
MDL Solution
MDL appointed a dedicated Project Manager to oversee the preservation works. MDL expert technicians were deployed to the customer's site in England to perform structural inspection of the reels, as well as to prepare the product for long-term storage, using locally-available suppliers for safe product handling to minimise cost to the client.
Outcomes
The preservation works executed covered: pigging and filling of the flexibles; pressure and annulus testing; de-watering; securing end fittings; replacing and re-certifying of rigging; and reinstatement of tarpaulins to prevent against UV degrading.
