Platform Case Study
Crane Control System Upgrade
Custom solution for enhanced operational safety
Challenge
A North Sea Operator approached MDL when their platform was facing challenges with an outdated crane control system, a corroded operator cabin and pumps. The client sought an all-in-one solution to address the obsolete infrastructure, ensuring enhanced safety and operational efficiency in the harsh offshore environment.
MDL Solution
MDL developed a bespoke control system with modern safety features like winch overspeed detection, automatic overload protection, and real-time fault finding, meeting the client’s specifications. The system ensures continuous operation through functional safety protocols for redundancy. MDL also designed and manufactured new, bespoke crane operator cabins compliant with EN13557 & EN13852-1 and replaced obsolete hydraulic pumps with specified direct alternatives.
Outcomes
MDL’s bespoke upgrade to the crane control system elevated the platform’s operational standards, fostering enhanced safety protocols and improved efficiency for operators. By replacing the corroded structures MDL not only increased the platform assets’ longevity for the client and contributed to a safer and more resilient offshore environment but also increased the asset's uptime via effective fault finding.
