Maritime Developments raises £1,400 for Marie Curie Cancer Care

Maritime Developments has raised £1409.93 for a leading cancer support charity following a successful staff event.

The company welcomed around 70 people to its Wilson Street premises in Peterhead with proceeds benefiting Marie Curie Cancer Care, which provides care and support for terminally ill people and their families.

The event, which featured a carnival theme with fun rides and activities, was held as a thank you to staff members. It marked the delivery of Maritime Developments’ first complete pipelaying spread, including the first portable vertical lay system (PVLS).

Derek Smith, chief executive at Maritime Developments, said: “I’d like to pay tribute to all of our staff for their hard work and dedication, in particular in completing the delivery of the company’s first complete pipelaying spread.

“This latest innovative project has resulted in extremely positive feedback from clients around the world for its ability to maximise return on investment and reduce mission time offshore. These successes are in no small part down to the skills and expertise of our talented team here in Peterhead and Aberdeen.

“We’re also pleased to have been able to raise money for Marie Curie and hopefully this support can go some way towards helping the charity continue its fine work with people suffering from the illness in the Peterhead area.”

Christine Masson, a Peterhead-based nurse at Marie Curie Cancer Care, said: “This fundraising is an extremely generous gesture from everyone connected to Maritime Developments and we couldn’t be more grateful. It will help the charity commit extra time to cancer and end-of-life patients and provide further support to their families and loved ones.”
